Randall Cobb knew the writing was on the wall that his time was over with the Green Bay Packers so during the NFL Honors he made his move to try and join Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Prescott, the two were getting ready for the NFL Honors when Cobb came up to him and told him, “Come get me.”

“At the NFL Honors, we were getting ready to take our seat and he said that. It’s interesting now, looking back,” said Dak Prescott via the Cowboys team website.

Cobb wanted to join the Cowboys and was serious when he said that Prescott, but didn't think it was a potential landing spot until Michael Beasley was let go.

“I actually didn’t think that it would be an option going into free agency until I saw Beasley leave,” Cobb said. “Then I knew that it was a real possibility and that it could happen. And we were able to get something done.”

With Beasley gone the team needed a new slot receiver, and that is the role that Cobb is most comfortable in. Cowboys receivers coach Sanjay Lal expects the team will start Cobb in the slot, but also expects he will move onto other roles when the team needs him to.

“He’s smart enough to play every position, so we’ll keep him at one position but use multiple formations – put him outside, inside, in the backfield,” said Sanjay Lal. “We can put him anywhere, because he is that guy – he is that smart.”
