The Dallas Cowboys lost a key cog of their offensive line in right guard Zack Martin in Friday's training camp.

The five-time Pro Bowler missed practice due to back spasms, first reported by ESPN's Todd Archer. The team promptly took Martin in for an MRI to cautiously maintain and resolve the injury.  As noted by Cowboys.com's Rob Phillips, the scan was done in a “precautionary” fashion, and head coach Jason Garrett said he's “moving around fine.”

Earlier on Saturday, an update on Martin's back was provided. According to 24/7 Sports' Mike Fisher, a Cowboys insider, the MRI showed no serious back issue for Martin. ESPN's Adam Schefter continues to shed light on the situation, saying the Cowboys are “encouraged” by the results of the MRI, but he won't be rushed into practice anytime soon.

The Cowboys have dealt with back injuries along their offensive line in the past, specifically with left tackle Tyron Smith. Knowing the importance of heeling the issue, and how hard it can be, resting Martin for training camp is a logical move for Dallas.

The Cowboys need Martin back at right guard by the time the season starts. A team dependent on its offensive line and running the ball through it, missing Martin would be a blow to Dallas' Super Bowl aspirations. They lost the career ironman for two games last season with a knee injury and the team allowed seven sacks in that span.

But all indications point to Martin's back injury not being serious, meaning he should be back by week one.
