The Dallas Cowboys received trouble news in Tuesday's training camp session. Defensive end Robert Quinn left the field, showing his left hand as bothering him, and didn't return. NFL Network's Jane Slater reported recently, via Twitter, that Quinn suffered a fracture in the same hand, and is headed back to Dallas for surgery. According to ESPN's Todd Archer, via Twitter, the injury took place during a pass-rush drill.

However, the team doesn't expect him to miss any regular-season time. Quinn should be back in time for September 8th's opener versus the New York Giants.

The Cowboys acquired Quinn in a trade with the Miami Dolphins earlier in the offseason. In return for the pass rusher, the Dolphins received a 2020 sixth-round pick; considered a steal for the price. He was previously a release candidate due to an impending rebuild in South Beach.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful career after being drafted at No. 14 overall in 2011 by the then-St. Louis Rams. By 2013, he was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro; he repeated as a Pro Bowler in 2014. In his first three seasons, Quinn tallied 34.5 sacks — 19 of which coming in 2013 In the next, he recorded 10.5 and never more than 8.5 (2017) before being shipped off to Miami in a cap dump.

In 2018, with the Dolphins, Quinn recorded 6.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, 38 total tackles, and nine for a loss while playing and starting the entire season. Though not the elite pass-rusher he was once, Quinn proved to stay productive in 2018 while playing his second healthy season in a row. Hopefully, he can make it his third with the Cowboys in 2019; as they could use his veteran skills alongside Demarcus Lawrence for pass-rushing purposes.
