Sean Lee is entering the final year of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys and Sunday could be his final game in the NFL. Given that he turns 34 years old in 2020, Lee will decide on his future in the NFL in the next few months.

“As you get older in your career, I think every year you take time in the offseason to evaluate where you are,” Lee, 33, said Friday, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “Being 10 years in, I think it’s natural for all players, especially at 10 years, to say, ‘OK, where am I at physically? What’s the right thing to do for me and my family?’ So, I’ll do that in the offseason for sure, but that’s going to come whenever that comes.”

Last year, Lee saw his role with the Cowboys reduced with the addition of Leighton Vander-Esch in the draft. But with Vander-Esch dealing with a neck injury this year, Lee has returned to being a starter on the defense.

In 12 starts, the veteran linebacker has tallied 83 tackles, one sack, four deflections, and an interception. Above all, Sean Lee has been able to maintain his health and be a key contributor on defense.

From 2015-2017, Sean Lee had three consecutive seasons of having 100 or more tackles for the Cowboys. He may no longer be the same linebacker he once was, but he's definitely useful to have for next season.

This upcoming offseason, Dallas will have quite a few decisions to make. Among them, Lee could end up making the decision easier on them if he chooses to retire after 10 seasons with the organization.

The best outcome for Sean Lee in the long term is hard to discern. The best outcome in the short term is for the Cowboys to win this Sunday and for the Philadelphia Eagles to lose. Those results would give the Cowboys and Lee another game this season, in the wild card round of the NFL Playoffs.
