After an expedited appeal process at the request of the NFL, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension has been upheld by arbitrator Harold Henderson, according to NFL insider Chris Mortensen.

The ruling for Elliott's motion to file a temporary restraining order on the suspension itself has been reserved for Friday according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, and Elliott will be eligible to play Week 1 after the NFL’s own 4 pm EST deadline for implementing suspensions was passed.

Elliott's legal team could drag this out for quite some time, so it's possible he plays beyond Sunday night's game against the New York Giants. His attorneys prepared this statement, which was released just after announcement was made regarding the Elliott appeal:

Depending on the ruling on the restraining order, Elliott could decide to start his restraining order immediately and comeback in Week 8 against the Washington Redskins. Or, he could play Week 1, then come back for Week 9's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the restraining order is approved, that completely changes the equation and will lead to even more litigation on the NFL's behalf.

While an official decision on the appeal has been made, this situation is far from ending and could roll on through the season.
