The Dallas Cowboys announced Mike McCarthy as the team's next head coach on Wednesday but there is still some business that needs taken care of. With the offseason coming soon, Stephen Jones gave an update on a deal for Dak Prescott.

“We’ve got to land the plane and get his deal done,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. “That’s on Jerry and myself. He’s our future. I think he stepped up and improved in all ways last year.”

Before the 2019 season, Jerry Jones came out and said that an extension for Prescott was ‘imminent'. However, as the season progressed, it was apparent that the two sides couldn't settle on an agreed number.

While Prescott was set to play the final year of his rookie contract, both Carson Wentz and Jared Goff received lucrative extensions. Wentz and Goff were both drafted in 2016—the same year the Cowboys drafted Prescott.

In his fourth season as the starter, Prescott had the best season of his young career in 2019. The Mississippi State product aired it out for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The 4,902 passing yards and 30 passing touchdowns were both career highs for Prescott.

Even though Dallas missed the postseason, the Cowboys' signal-caller was crucial in the team securing the title of having the No. 1 ranked offense in the NFL. As a former fourth-round pick, Prescott has been quite the find for the Cowboys.

Despite his draft selection, Prescott figures to command a hefty price tag on his next contract. Considering Jones' latest comments coupled with his play on the field, it appears that Prescott is going to get an impressive raise this offseason.
