With the exception of 2018 (when he was in the Monday Night Football booth), Jason Witten has occupied the top spot on the Dallas Cowboys' tight end depth chart for the last 17 years.

Now, though, with the future Hall of Famer playing for thee Las Vegas Raiders, the Cowboys will be relying on Blake Jarwin to provide the security blanket that Witten routinely offered Cowboys quarterbacks over his 16 seasons.

Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones, for one, has confidence in the fourth-year pro's ability to step into the shoes of Witten—who Jones said is in his “handful of all-time favorite Cowboys.”

Unlike Witten, though, Jarwin's opportunity as the starting tight end will come up the leadership of head coach Mike McCarthy.

“I think Blake Jarwin has had an amazing camp,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “It was hard to be a tight end in this organization when 82 was around. Certainly he’s getting to spread his wings now, whether it’s Coach McCarthy, the offensive staff, his teammates, he keeps showing up out there…he’s really coming in to his own, and nothing would surprise me with him in terms of what his production could be this year. He just keeps getting better.”

Jones added that Jawin has already built an “outstanding” rapport with Dak Prescott. “I really think he’s got a chance to step right in there and be a really good, if not great, tight end for us,” Jones said.

Jarwin has played in all 32 games over the past two seasons. In 2019, he set a career-high with 31 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns, though Witten still saw the majority of snaps.
