One of the biggest storylines of the 2019 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys is the looming contract extension of quarterback Dak Prescott. It appears it has now become their top priority once the offseason officially begins.

According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones says signing both Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper to lucrative paydays will be their point of emphasis:

“It’s been urgent for us. We certainly want to get that done. That’s our No. 1 priority as we go into the offseason is to …hopefully find some resolution to it and get that done.” What priority is Amari Cooper? “No. 2.”

Jones' comments should hardly come as any surprise considering there has been plenty of speculation regarding their future contracts with the Cowboys. Fortunately, it appears they are adamant about keeping both key members of their offense around.

Regardless, Dallas still has some major decisions to make this offseason. They have already ushered in some significant changes to their coaching staff and currently have 20 players set to test the waters of free agency. The onus will fall on the Cowboys' front office to ensure that they avoid too much roster turnover with Prescott and Cooper's payday.

The market has already been set for both quarterbacks and wide receivers last offseason. Prescott saw Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff sign a four-year extension worth $134 million featuring an NFL record $110 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, New Orleans Saints rewarded wide receiver Michael Thomas with a five-year, $100 million contract extension with $61 million guaranteed.

It is safe to say that these deals will likely serve as the benchmark for Prescott and Cooper's new deals with the Cowboys.
