Rex Ryan faced plenty of criticism coming after his questionable comments on Amari Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys. Stephon Gilmore knocked Ryan. Even though Gilmore doesn't play with Cooper, he took to Twitter to defend the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

On Friday morning, Ryan was speaking about the Cowboys and their decision to sign Cooper to a five-year, $100 million contract. While illustrating his point, Ryan said that Cooper is a ‘disappearing act' and a ‘turd'.

There's no doubt that Ryan's comments were uncalled for, especially on live television. Just hours after making the comments, the former NFL head coach issued an apology to Cooper.

Regardless of his apology, his stance on Cooper is a bit questionable. When arguably the best cornerback comes out to give an endorsement for Cooper, it's likely that he's right.

Gilmore, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is considered to be the most well-rounded cornerback in the NFL. During the 2019 season, Gilmore got a chance to cover Cooper when the Cowboys faced the New England Patriots.

Cooper would finish their matchup with zero receptions on two targets while playing in less than ideal weather. With that being said, Gilmore knows that Cooper is better than the numbers indicate.

Despite playing through multiple injuries, Cooper finished with 79 receptions for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns. Above all, he helped the Cowboys put together the No. 1 ranked offense in the NFL. Contrary to what Ryan says, players in the league know that Cooper is better than what people want to give him credit for.
