The Los Angeles Rams parted ways with wide receiver Tavon Austin this offseason. Despite now being with the Dallas Cowboys, Austin has not been shy about expressing what went wrong during his time in Los Angeles.

It goes without saying that he was virtually a non-factor during the 2017 campaign. Austin said during an appearance on the Shan & RJ show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] that his struggles last season were due to the system on offense:

“To be honest man, it’s all about the system. You just have to be in the right system at the right time. And have the right people around you. That’s all it be,” Austin said “Just got to take chances on the people calling plays for you and you got to make them, that’s the main thing. When you make plays and things happen, more stuff will happen for you.”

Austin's comments may seem like that of a former disgruntled teammate. However, there is plenty of truth to them.

The Rams had the worst offense in the league during the 2016 NFL season, despite the fact that Austin had the best year of his career. When Los Angeles finally made the necessary changes going into the 2017 campaign, the speedster's role on offense decreased dramatically.

Once it became clear that the Rams were confident in their newly-developed receiving corps, Austin was primarily used as a change-of-pace back for running back Todd Gurley. As a result, he endured his worst season yet after registering just 317 combined yards and a touchdown.

However, his lack of production had zero effect on the Rams' performance as they became the highest-scoring offense in the league. That said, Austin is hoping the system in Dallas is a lot more favorable to him than Los Angeles was.
