Mike McCarthy is continuing to assemble an impressive coaching staff after becoming the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. According to Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel, McCarthy has brought in Texas A&M's Maurice Linguist to be the defensive backs coach.

Over the past two years, Linguist has served as the defensive backs coach at Texas A&M. During his time at the college level, Linguist became a coveted assistant college and apparently in NFL circles.

Before arriving at Texas A&M, the new Cowboys defensive backs coach has 12 years of coaching experience. Most notably, he joined P.J. Fleck's staff at Minnesota as the defensive backs coach.

In his only season at Minnesota, Linguist helped build a talented secondary that rivaled some of the best teams in the nation. Despite being shorthanded with injuries, Minnesota finished the 2017 season with the 11th ranked pass defense and 22nd ranked defense in the nation in terms of passing touchdowns allowed.

Due to the difference he made, Fleck promoted Linguist to assistant head coach after the 2017 season. However, as a Texas native, Linguist chose to accept the job to become the defensive backs coach at Texas A&M.

Besides Linguist, McCarthy has already brought in Mike Nolan to be the Cowboys' defensive coordinator. In addition, he lured John Fassel from the Los Angeles Rams to become the new special teams coordinator while retaining Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator.

Of course, Linguist will be replacing Kris Richard—who served as the team's defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator since 2018. The Cowboys are hoping that Linguist can turn Dallas into a juggernaut in the secondary.
