QB Andy Dalton will be back under center for the Dallas Cowboys as soon as he recovers from COVID-19, CEO Stephen Jones said on his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan.

The Cowboys have started rookie seventh-round pick Ben DiNucci and journeyman Garrett Gilbert at quarterback in their past two games—both losses. However, Dallas was far more competitive against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9 with Gilbert than they were in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gilbert completed 21 of 38 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception against Pittsburgh. He also had Dallas up in the fourth quarter before some costly penalties by the Cowboys defense allowed the Steelers to retake the lead in the final minutes.

Despite the loss, Jones praised Gilbert's “hell of a day.” Nonetheless, he clarified that the job is Dalton's when the veteran is fully healthy. Dalton was recently in concussion protocol.

Dalton started two games for the Cowboys after Dak Prescott's season-ending ankle injury in Week 5. Dalton suffered a concussion in Dallas' loss to the Washington Football Team on Oct. 25 and went into the protocol. He tested positive for the coronavirus the next day, but because he wasn't cleared to practice or travel with the team to Philly due to the concussion, he was luckily also isolated from his team when he tested positive.

The Cowboys have a bye in Week 10 and won't play again until they visit the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 22nd, four days before hosting Washington on Thanksgiving.

At 2-7, the Cowboys are still somehow in the AFC East race, looking up at the 3-4-1 Eagles.
