NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday that there is optimism within the Cowboys' organization that star running back Zeke Elliott will not be suspended for his altercation with a security guard earlier this offseason.

Elliott was summoned to the NFL offices in New York to discuss his night in Las Vegas earlier this spring when he was captured on video bumping a security guard to the ground and being handcuffed. Elliott was not arrested and now according to Garafolo, he may have hurdled a suspension.

Garafolo said the incident alone usually would not be enough to warrant a suspension, but Elliot's history of past transgressions complicates matters for the league office.

Most notably, Elliott was served a six-game suspension in 2017 after a long legal battle against the NFL against allegations of domestic abuse. Elliott was never arrested or charged, but spent time on the sideline.

The NFL's personal conduct policy reads: “Repeat offenders will be subject to enhanced and/or expedited discipline, including banishment from the league with an opportunity to reapply.”

Elliott posted an apology to his social media Tuesday afternoon, and it seems, this may be the end of it, for now.

“I’ve worked hard to make better decisions and to live up to the high standards that are expected of me,” Elliott wrote. “I failed to do that here and I made a poor decision. I apologized to Kyle Johnson at the time and I meant it.”
