Michael Irvin recently created some controversy when he uttered that “some significant people” believe that Tom Brady could join the Dallas Cowboys. Despite backtracking from his comments, Irvin's idea of Brady going to Dallas may not be too crazy.

Just a couple of days after making the remarks on a radio show, Irvin said that the “significant people” that informed him of the scenario didn't include Jerry Jones. However, the Hall of Fame receiver believed his source enough to mention the idea to the media.

Since last offseason, the Cowboys have attempted to sign Dak Prescott long-term. According to multiple reports, he's turned down multiple contract offers. Those offers would've made him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.

Without a doubt, Dallas would like to sign him to an extension ahead of the 2020 season. But with Prescott digging his feet in, the Cowboys may be inclined to place the dreaded franchise tag on him.

For a quarterback, a franchise tag can be a proverbial slap in the face. Therefore, Prescott could choose to remain away from the team until the regular season nears.

In the event that he is upset with the tag, the Cowboys may choose to trade him to another team. After all, Dallas wants to succeed in their first season under Mike McCarthy in 2020. While Prescott showed he's the future of the franchise, he could force the team's hand this offseason.

Between the two, the Cowboys would undoubtedly choose to move forward with Prescott over Brady. With that being said, Prescott's contract situation could make for an interesting offseason development for the Cowboys.
