Over the last few months since the Dallas Cowboys decided to part ways with former Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant, there has been a lot of criticism about his play at this point in his career.

There has been plenty of criticism tossed Bryant's way, as staffers for his former team have taken shots at him by essentially stating that his best days are behind him.

However, former Cowboys great Tony Romo voiced Thursday that he doesn't believe Bryant has experienced a decline in ability and still has plenty left in the tank to play at a high level.

“When I watched the tape, I thought he was the same guy. He obviously didn't have the same production, but Dez was never Antonio Brown with his route running but at the same time people can't do what Dez does to high point the catch. When I looked at it, I was really seeing a Dez Bryant, who I thought was still a really good football player and he's 29 years old. I just don't think at that age you fall off a cliff that suddenly. In the tape that I watched, I was looking to see some of the comments that we read, but I still think Dez Bryant is an outstanding football player, and I think, if he goes to the right place, you're going to see that this year.”

Throughout his career, Romo has been a huge supporter of Bryant as the two established a strong connection to become an elite quarterback/wide receiver tandem. However, the 29-year-old has experienced a notable drop off in production over the last three seasons, failing to reach 1,000 receiving yards in each campaign

There is no question that Bryant could be a high impact player in the passing game for another team, but it may just come down to the perceived extra baggage that he brings with his personality. His fiery and passionate emotions toward the game could be troublesome for teams considering taking him on. This is on top of his desire to earn a contract above his perceived value around the league.

Bryant may still be without a team at this juncture in the offseason, but he could prove to be a highly impactful late-offseason addition that could set the stage for a major bounce-back 2018 campaign.
