Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has thoughts about being a general manager but knows if he wants to become that it will have to be somewhere besides the Dallas Cowboys.

Aikman has been an NFL analyst since 2011 but admits that at times he thinks about doing something different like being an NFL general manager. Aikman said he has had talks with John Lynch and John Elway, both guys who played in the NFL and now are general managers.

Aikman was asked about becoming the general manager with the Cowboys and he said that probably isn' something that will happen, because Jerry Jones isn't going to give up that role.

“I doubt it. I mean, I think that’s a real long shot,” Aikman said of being the Cowboys’ G.M via Pro Football Talk. “I believe that it’s unlikely that Jerry will ever bring somebody in that can help this football team in that regard just because he’s been real stubborn and steadfast, in that he’s the one in charge.

“I think in a lot of ways until that changes, this team’s going to have some problems. Would he ever ask me to come be a part of it? I think that’d be a real leap of faith. I don’t envision that happening, and I don’t envision it happening at any point, quite honestly, no matter who’s in charge out there.”

Jones has made it clear many times that he is not going to be hiring a different general manager so if Aikman wants to pursue that path it's going to need to be with someone besides his beloved Cowboys.
