The bulk of the Dallas Cowboys' offseason had been spent tiptoeing around the contract extension talks of both star running back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott. However, first-round wideout Amari Cooper could also be in line for an extension.

The Cowboys are taking their time with Cooper, though, after offering big money and a long-term deal to Elliott and stalling negotiations with Prescott.

Per Adam Schefter in ESPN.com:

Cooper would like to be in Dallas, and the Cowboys would like him there. But of all the Cowboys entering the last year of their contracts and connected to a new deal, none has been more patient than Cooper — and this strategy has worked out well so far.

Amari Cooper arrived in the Big D through a trade with the Oakland Raiders in 2018. The Alabama product was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. After three seasons and six games with the AFC West franchise, Oakland sent Cooper to the Cowboys for a 2019 first-round draft pick.

In nine games last season with the ‘Boys, Cooper recorded 53 receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns.

Team owner Jerry Jones and Dallas's front office are clearly bent on securing long-term arrangements for key offensive contributors Prescott, Elliott, and now Cooper, who make up the core of a top offense for the Cowboys. Dallas also locked up defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, offensive tackle La'El Collins, and linebacker Jaylon Smith to extensions.

It's only a matter of time before Prescott and Cooper join that list.
