Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper grabbed headlines today in more ways than one. Apart from having a monster game against the Washington Redskins at home on Thursday, Cooper also attracted plenty of attention by mimicking Philadelphia 76ers point guard Markelle Fultz’s free-throw routine.

Naturally, most people, especially those on social media, associated Cooper’s touchdown celebration to a form of trolling. However, Cooper told reporters following the game that having fun at the expense of Fultz’s feelings was never his intention, per Calvin Watkins of The Athletic.

Amari Cooper said he thought mimicking Markelle Fultz free throw shooting technique would be a cool thing to do. He wasn’t trying to make fun of Fultz.

It’s up to the audience whether they would believe what Cooper was selling with that take. What’s undeniable is that he just had his best game in Cowboys threads.

Cooper spent the entire game embarrassing the Redskins’ defense, as he finished the contest with 180 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches and eight receptions. His previous high since getting traded to Dallas from the Oakland Raiders was 75 receiving yards in a 27-20 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road back in Week 10.

If anything, Markelle Fultz seemed to have no problems with Cooper’s end zone celebration.
