The Dallas Cowboys’ lack of a true No. 1 wide receiver has been a major talking point around the team this season. But they’re apparently looking into addressing that problem by potentially trading for Oakland Raiders wideout Amari Cooper, league sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Cowboys have reportedly been calling up people around the league to gather information about Cooper to help them decide whether the young wideout is worth the Raiders' steep price of a first-round pick.

Schefter also adds that apart from the Cowboys, the Raiders have also received inquiries from other wide receiver-needy teams like the Washington Redskins and Indianapolis Colts.

Cooper, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 draft, has started this season slowly, recording just 22 catches for 280 yards — both third on the team — with one touchdown in his first six games. Those numbers are not too far from the Cowboys' top receiver, Cole Beasley, who has 26 catches for 294 yards and two TDs.

Cooper is also coming off a disappointing 2017 campaign when he had 48 catches for 680 yards and seven touchdowns in 14 games. That was a far cry from his production in his first two years in the league when he topped 1,000 receiving yards in both years en route to back-to-back Pro Bowl selections.

A recent rumor suggests that the Raiders have concerns about Cooper’s passion for the game, which is a significant factor for why they’re willing to part with him. But as his first two years in the league showed, he does have tremendous upside when he’s on top of his game.

Still, the Cowboys will need to determine whether Cooper is actually capable of returning to that sort of level again if they are willing to meet the Raiders’ asking price.
