The Dallas Cowboys could be in the market for an edge rusher with a few options left in free agency. Despite the team's need at edge rusher, Dallas won't pursue Jadeveon Clowney, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Entering free agency, Clowney was expected to be the most sought after edge defender. However, Clowney is seeking a deal that makes him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.

As a result, teams around the league — including the Cowboys — are straying away from the former No. 1 pick. After losing Robert Quinn in free agency, Dallas is in need of someone to replace him next season.

Prior to the 2019 campaign, Clowney was traded to the Seattle Seahawks from the Houston Texans. In his lone season in Seattle, the South Carolina product managed to record just three sacks and four forced fumbles.

While those numbers are a bit disappointing, it's important to note that Clowney dealt with a nagging core injury in 2019. In light of that, there could be teams who are also hesitant to sign him coming off an injury.

Usually in free agency, the Cowboys tend to be a team that expresses interest in the biggest names available. But this time around, Jerry Jones realizes that Dallas needs to preserve some money to re-sign Dak Prescott.

With Clowney not being an option, a couple of viable targets for the Cowboys could be Cameron Wake or Everson Griffen. Even though some fans may have dreamt of Clowney signing in Dallas, he won't be wearing a star on his helmet in 2020.
