In the last few months, the Dallas Cowboys have been heavily rumored as a possible landing spot for Seattle Seahawks All-Pro safety Earl Thomas. This chatter had sparked up back again during the 2018 NFL Draft last week, but the Cowboys had elected to keep their picks to bring in young promising talent.

According to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, a large of the lack of any moment came down to the fact that Cowboys didn't want to part ways with their second-round pick. (h/t Chris Wesseling of NFL.com)

Appearing on Monday's edition of NFL Up to the Minute, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Cowboys balked at the idea of surrendering their second-round pick in a potential Thomas trade.

Also adding to that conversation was that the Cowboys were reportedly willing to part ways with the third-round selection and several other assets but the decision to not include second-round pick that turned out to be offensive guard Connor Williams ended any hope of a trade during the draft from taking place.

It has at least quieted the trade talk around Thomas despite the Cowboys still be interested in bringing aboard the Pro Bowl safety this offseason. There is no getting around the fact that there is mutual interest on both sides toward working something out. Thomas may be in the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal but he could be willing to work something out long-term with Dallas.

The team could also take the route of waiting until next offseason when he becomes a free agent to pursue him. Thomas is still playing at a high level as one of the top players in the league at his position. This is certainly something to continue to monitor over the next several months of the offseason that could bleed over into the regular season if things remain the same between both sides in Seattle.
