Chicago Cubs star rookie Seiya Suzuki has been dealing with a finger injury which landed him on the 10-day IL. Despite David Ross indicating that Suzuki could be ready to return at some point during the series against the New York Yankees but a recent update from Davis Ross revealed Suzuki had not been progressing well. According to NBC Sports, Suzuki will be shut down for at least a week after experiencing a setback, a significant blow for the Cubs who were hoping to have him back by now.

Suzuki has been out since May 26 while dealing with a sprained finger which he sustained while sliding into second base. The team was hoping he could be activated from the Injured List in time for the series against the Yankees, but his recovery has taken a step in the opposite direction.

The 28-year-old has been shut down from swinging a bat and all other baseball activities for at least the next week. The Cubs expect him to miss the entire upcoming homestand at Wrigley Field, during which they'll host the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves.

At best, Suzuki is looking at a return to action ahead of the Cubs' road trip which starts June 20 in a clash at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He's reportedly been dealing with swelling and discomfort in the finger, and his efforts to fight through it have proven futile.

On the year, Suzuki is slashing .245/.344/.432 with 4 home runs, 21 RBI, and 3 stolen bases. He's struck out 49 times and recorded 21 walks in 163 plate appearances, playing most of his defense out in right field.
