A Chicago Cubs minor league player in Jesus Camargo-Corrales is set to face charges after the Colorado police found his duffel bag filled with 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of oxycodone pills, per ESPN.

The 25-year-old hailing from Tempe, Arizona already made an appearance in Eagle County Court on Thursday. He received charges of unlawful distribution of methamphetamine and oxycodone which were identified as class 1 drug felonies. In addition, he was also charged with unlawful possession of each drug, both tagged as class 4 drug felonies.

According to the arrest affidavit, Camargo-Corrales was driving a silver BMW on Interstate 70 near Vail. He was stopped by an Eagle County sheriff's deputy after the car was seen speeding and drifting lanes on the road.

After Jesus Camargo-Corrales was stopped, the player told the cop that he is traveling to Denver to host a baseball clinic for children. He denied his possession of the drugs as he reportedly followed the anti-doping policy instated by the Cubs organization.

Despite his denial, a K-9 unit eventually alerted the officers who conducted a search in the car's rear-wheel well and back seat. A white bag with cologne and a $1,000 held by a rubber band was found by the police.

Furthermore, a Cubs duffel bag filled with several packages wrapped in white and green plastics marked with the initials ‘CO' was found in the trunk. Camargo-Corrales claimed that a friend based in Sinaloa, Mexico, gave him $500 just to drive the bag to Denver.

The player, who was also from Sinaloa, denied that he had knowledge regarding the items that were placed inside the bag. He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond and will be back on the court come March 30.

Jesus Camargo-Corrales is playing as a pitcher and was first signed to a minor league contract back in 2014. He continued to see action as he was recently assigned to the team's South Bend, Indiana, affiliate in February prior to the incident.

“We are aware of the arrest of one our minor league players,” said Julian Green about Jesus Camargo-Corrales. “We are investigating this matter and cannot provide additional comment until we have further details.”
