With the MLB lockout finally finding resolution, the focus can now shift back to regular baseball programming such as signing players to massive new deals. Carlos Correa remains one of the biggest names out there in MLB free agency and one team reportedly emerging as a contender is the Chicago Cubs.

According to the latest from MLB insider Jon Paul Morosi, the Cubs are in prime position to steal away the Houston Astros star to man shortstop at Wrigley Field.

Perhaps most intriguingly, the Chicago Cubs are poised to play a major role in the courtship of Correa as the baseball industry bursts back to life.

The Cubs were among the teams that had the heaviest dialogue with Correa’s camp in the hours before the lockout began in early December, and there is every reason to believe those conversations will resume.

The Cubs may have dismantled most of the roster from their 2016 World Series team, but a full scale rebuild is reportedly not in the cards for them. Adding a defensive juggernaut with a plus bat at shortstop in Carlos Correa for the next decade, give or take, is certainly a great foundational piece for building their next contender.
