The Chicago Cubs have made the decision to move on from Joe Maddon this offseason and will be searching for a new manager to replace him. While quite a few names have been mentioned as potential candidates, there is one name that just refuses to go away. That name would be former Cubs' catcher David Ross.

According to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, Ross is the “clear-cut favorite” to replace Maddon and be hired to be the Cubs' next manager.

Ross will need help with X's and O's component, as the game can speed up for first-time managers. His catching background gives him an understanding of what he wants from his pitchers and pitching coach. Ross is a clear-cut favorite — should he want the job.

Ross would certainly be an intriguing fit for the Cubs. He played with a lot of the guys on the roster just a few short years ago and was instrumental in getting Chicago back to the World Series.

Chicago cannot afford to make the wrong move this offseason. Theo Epstein knows that Maddon was a great manager, despite his flaws, and that a step backward in the dugout could be the final straw to this window of contention. Ross would be an intriguing fit and would certainly be a popular hire in the clubhouse.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors about the Cubs this offseason. From their managerial search to potential roster moves, change is brewing in Chicago. Epstein and company have their work cut out for them.
