Initially, CD Projekt Red was eyeing a 2021 release date for Cyberpunk’s next-gen update. However, recently the developers mentioned that they can’t guarantee the next-gen update happening soon and instead pushed to sometime in 2022.

In an earnings call with investors last September 2, CD Projekt Red VP for Business Development Michał Nowakowski says:

“Our target is to release the next-gen version late this year… At the same time, keeping in mind all the things we’ve learned during the past year and taking into account the fact that this project remains in development, we can’t promise the production schedule will not change.”

Ever since CD Projekt Red’s early release of Cyberpunk 2077, the game received a lot of backlash from players. A lot of bugs and glitches were in the game which started a huge fire amongst players who were highly anticipating the game. Looks like up until the present day, the devs are struggling with the same problem. Because of this, the next-gen’s update initial release date is now affected.

Nothing surprises us at this point. Some might say that Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest flop in gaming history. Despite CD Projekt Red’s success story with The Witcher franchise, they couldn’t back it up with their new title.

We have to give huge credit to CD Projekt Red for their dedication and determination to fix Cyberpunk 2077. At least this gesture somehow gives us hope that we could actually experience Cyberpunk 2077 the way we’re supposed to, whenever that might be. Hopefully, once they truly finish fixing the game, the next-gen release could finally be the finished product.
