Cyberpunk 2077 released to an influx of fans wanting to play it as soon as it launches. People's excitement to play the game can lead to massive disappointments when it doesn't meet expectations. And even before people get to play the game, frustrations are already starting to crop up.

As you may already know by now, pre-ordering Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam will allow you to pre-load the game. Storefronts designed these pre-loading processes to let you skip the long and arduous download process at launch. However, many fans are now confronted with a massive download issue that is preventing them from playing the game at launch.

Preloading the game allows you to download and install to your computer the base 57GB of the game's files. However, as soon as the game launched earlier today, the download for the “Day 0” patch kicked in. With so many people (a million on Steam alone, in fact) downloading the same file simultaneously, Steam's servers imploded, resulting in some download issues. The same issue is being reported on other platforms, such as GOG.com and Epic Games Store.

IF YOUR CYBERPUNK 2077 DOWNLOAD IS STUCK AT 57GB, DON'T PANIC. HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT

If you've been itching to play Cyberpunk 2077 but haven't been able to, chances are your download is currently stuck at 57GB. Fans have tried various workarounds here in an attempt to fix this issue. There are those who tried to uninstall the current download progress and restart the download from 0GB. Meanwhile, others changed download servers in hopes of getting better download progress. None of these will work. In fact, doing any of these will take you even further from finally getting to experience the game. The solution here is not to panic, be patient, and wait.

Valve issued a statement addressing concerns over stuck downloads, saying that if your download for Cyberpunk 2077 is “stuck”, it only means that the Steam client is busy unpacking the contents of the downloaded data (i.e., installing the pre-loaded game). Meanwhile, your download progress will appear as having no progress. Don't worry about it. Steam will continue downloading the rest of the game as soon as the pre-loaded files have been successfully unpacked.

CONCLUSION

Now might be a good time to make sure that you have enough disk space to actually play the game. To be able to successfully unpack Cyberpunk 2077's contents, you will need about 120GB of hard drive space during installation, but the actual game's contents will only fall at around 70GB. It will also help speed up the unpacking process if you use a high-speed hard drive, or better yet, an internal SSD. If your Steam library is saved on an external hard drive, then it will really take a couple of hours for Cyberpunk 2077 to finish unpacking.

Meanwhile, there are still some people who are experiencing actual download issues. For example, those who decided to delete their game files in an attempt to “refresh” their downloads might end up having to compete with other people who are also downloading the game just now. There really isn't a way to make the download any faster, as this is dependent on your own internet connection and Steam's server capacities. The only thing you can do now is to be patient, remain calm, and stay frosty. We've had a very long and drama-filled road towards this launch. A little more wait won't hurt.
