With the 2020 NFL season set to get underway this week, the Dallas Cowboys are preparing to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football. Dallas just went through an offseason of change, with the biggest change coming from the Cowboys moving on from Jason Garrett and hiring former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to take over the coaching duties.
In addition to that move, the Cowboys brought in wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the 2020 NFL Draft. They were also excited about the free agency addition of Gerald McCoy, but a season-ending injury resulted in him being released. There are still some questions on the defensive side of the ball that the Cowboys will need to answer, but the offense looks stacked.
Dak Prescott is back as the franchise quarterback, although he did not get an extension this offseason. Some have even gone so far as to say that Prescott could end up leaving the Cowboys in the fairly near future. Amari Cooper did get paid and is joined by Lamb and Michael Gallup, forming a lethal trio of wideouts.
Once again, the Cowboys have superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott leading the ground attack. McCarthy has always loved pounding the football on the ground, which bodes well for another big season from Elliott.
All of that being said, let's dive in and take a look at three bold predictions for the Cowboys in Week 1 against the Rams.
3. CeeDee Lamb Torches The Rams In His NFL Debut
Los Angeles may have Jalen Ramsey, but they do not have a true lockdown corner behind him. Troy Hill will have his hands full defending Gallup, which leaves Lamb in the slot as a major weapon for the Cowboys.
Lamb was projected to be a top-12 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but ended up falling to No. 17 overall to the Cowboys. His addition will give opposing defenses nightmares. Dallas has three wide receivers who are more than capable of racking up 1,000 receiving yards on the season.
In his NFL debut against the Rams, Lamb is going to put up huge numbers. He will catch nine passes for 120 yards and at least one touchdown. Lamb could end up scoring twice. That debut will give the Cowboys even more reason for excitement.
2. The Defense Holds The Rams To Just 14 Points
As previously mentioned, the Cowboys are going to have to answer some questions defensively. To start the season, the defense will pass the test with flying colors.
Dallas has a lot of talent on their defense. Names like Jaylon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch, Dontari Poe, DeMarcus Lawrence, and even Aldon Smith should have productive years. The Cowboys are going to need cornerbacks Anthony Brown and Trevon Diggs to step up, which is exactly what will happen.
The Rams are going to have trouble moving the football and the Cowboys will end up holding them to just 14 points. That will put Dallas in a great position to pull off a Week 1 win.
1. Cowboys Move To 1-0 In Blowout Fashion
Finally, the most important prediction is the final score. McCarthy and company will start the season with a blowout win over the Rams.
We are predicting that the final score of this game will end up being 31-14. The Cowboys are going to coast to an easy win behind their dynamic offense and a defense that has big-time potential. Assuming the young secondary steps up, the Cowboys are in for a fun and successful season.
Dallas will be looking to prove that they are a team to watch in the NFC playoff picture. They may not end up winning a Super Bowl this season, but they are certainly going to be a team that has the potential for a deep playoff run.
