It was not that long ago when Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum scored 50 points in just 29 minutes. Well, it did not take his running mate more than two weeks to follow suit. Just like McCollum, Portland spitfire court general Damian Lillard exploded for 50 points in only 29 minutes on the floor during Friday’s 118-100 road win against the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings simply got torched by Lillard, whose hands are probably still smoking after draining 16 of his 26 shot attempts from the field. Lillard was locked in from deep, as he buried eight three-pointers on 13 shots from behind the arc. Moreover, he also went 10-for-10 from the foul line. Apart from putting up a shooting clinic, Lillard contributed in other areas, finishing the game with six assists and three steals. All Lillard did in that game was to highlight his brilliance on offense while amplifying the mediocre nature of Sacramento’s defense that ranks 20th in the league with 106.7 points allowed per game.

With his sublime scoring performance, Lillard joins Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson and McCollum, as the only players in NBA history to rack up at least 50 points in a game in just under 30 minutes of playing time.

Damian Lillard now has four 50-point games in his career. His career high in points ins 59, which he made during a 101-86 home win over the Utah Jazz last year. Lillard, who paces the Blazers this season with 25.5 points per game, will look to keep it going Sunday, when they host the Utah Jazz at Moda Center.
