D'Angelo Russell of the Minnesota Timberwolves joined a peaceful protest in Louisville on Saturday in honor of Breonna Taylor, who would have celebrated her 27th birthday on Friday.

Russell recorded a video showing him chanting “No justice, no peace!” and Taylor's name alongside his fellow protestors.

Taylor, a certified EMT working to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic and on her way to becoming a nurse, was killed by members of the Louisville police department shortly after midnight on March 13, when cops forcefully entered her apartment on a “no-knock” drug warrant.

The police were reportedly investigating two men suspected of selling drugs about 10 miles from Taylor's apartment.

The Timberwolves point guard took a moment to address the crowd of protestors. D'Angelo Russell, like Taylor, is a native of Louisville.

“We got everybody out here: all skin complexions, all ages, all different beliefs. But none of that matters right now … this is me stepping out of character to come out and speak to everybody….everybody here is together for one reason only: we want justice, we want justice for everybody.”

Outside of the Timberwolves star, a slew of NBA players has joined the protests sweeping America in recent days. Coaches and teams also weighed in on the conversation in hopes of igniting social change.

The Timberwolves and the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx have also declared election day as an official company holiday. CEO Ethan Casson stated in a message that the decision is made to encourage their employees to make their voices be heard through voting.
