Los Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell showed up in their preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night sporting a new tattoo on his right leg.

The fresh ink was a picture of the late Muhammad Ali, who the second-year player has a connection with. Before his one-year stint at Ohio State, Russell attended Lousiville High School, where the boxing legend also graduated from, as reported by Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times.

The artwork on his leg was captured and shared by Andrew Martinez of Lakers Nation:

Even with the ongoing acts of protest and unity athletes and professional teams have done lately, it's uncertain if this is the young point guard's way of doing his own demonstration. If it was, he couldn't have done it better than to show it by having the famous boxer and political activist's picture permanently inked on his skin.

Either way, the excellent tattoo is a great tribute to the former heavyweight champion, who passed away earlier this year.
