Conor McGregor has been making the rounds on social media after making it clear he wants the next UFC lightweight title shot against Charles Oliveira. Daniel Cormier has recently spoken out on the potential fight.

It didn't seem like a realistic option at first but now it looks like the UFC could be interested in the fight. Daniel Cormier thinks the fight could absolutely happen this summer.

“Honestly, I really do believe that there are different rules in regards to Conor,” Daniel Cormier said in a Tuesday conversation with The Schmo. “And people might not like it, people may hate it, but if he is healthy and he starts to chirp, Oliveira’s chirping back at him, and if there’s fan interest, I can see a world where it happens [this summer]. It would make so many people upset, but ultimately it comes down to dollars and cents.”

There have been many people speaking out on the potential matchup and the common theme has been about how much money the fight would make. Conor McGregor headlining a UFC pay-per-view with a title shot would do huge numbers.

The current problem is that the UFC has plenty of options at lightweight with Justin Gaethje ready to go and the winner of Beniel Dariush vs Islam Makhachev expected to get a title shot also.

The answer should come soon enough on what the UFC will choose to do. Conor McGregor is expected to come back regardless in 2022, his next fight isn't clear at the moment.
