Daniel Jones has had a roller coaster rookie season since taking over for Eli Manning as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants. While there is a lot of pressure surrounding him as the starter in New York and after being drafted with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones has not allowed that to impact how he has played the game.

With the bad games, Jones has shown some signs of potential for the future. This week against the Detroit Lions, Jones showed some of the superstar potential that the Giants saw in him when they drafted him.

In the unfortunate loss to the Lions, Jones ended up completing 28 of his 41 pass attempts for 322 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. That kind of production is exactly what the Giants were hoping to see. Even though the Lions are a fairly bad defense, it is still difficult to put up those numbers against an NFL team.

New York has been searching for some hope over the last few seasons. Manning had not been getting the job done and a new era has begun this season.

Jones will now team long-term with superstar running back Saquon Barkley. This season has been rough, but the building blocks are there for an impressive offense to be built by the Giants.

It will be interesting to see what the franchise decides to do over the next couple of offseasons. Everything started with finding a true franchise quarterback to replace Manning. Jones has been doing enough to show that the Giants likely have that on their roster.

Defensively, the Giants will need to make quite a few moves to get things back on track. They need to shore up their secondary, pass rush, and possibly add a quality linebacker or two. The offense seems to be on the right track, especially if Jones can continue improving and reach his full potential.

All of that being said, it is disappointing that the Giants could not pull out the win for Jones after his big game. It just goes to show that there is still a lot more work for the team to do. There is, however, a lot of room for optimism moving forward with the young quarterback starting to come into his own.

Jones will face his next test against the division rival Dallas Cowboys next week in a primetime matchup on Monday Night Football.
