The salary cap may have been reduced to its initial projection, but the jump from last season’s figure is already enough for free agents to want to cash in on the opportunity.

Danilo Gallinari knows that very well, and according to Sean Deveny of Sporting News, the veteran forward has trained his eyes on a significant dollar amount for his prime years.

“From what we understand, he is looking for something similar to Parsons, a Chandler Parsons-type contract” one NBA general manager told Deveney. “There is a lot of risk there, but that’s where the market is. Get past those first few free agents, and he is going to be next in line pretty quick.”

The 28-year-old Italian is currently at his peak age and his confidence seemed to have followed suit. For reference, Chandler Parsons, last summer, inked a whopping $94 million contract for four years with the Memphis Grizzlies. That amount hasn’t been justified yet by Parsons, no thanks to injuries.

For his part, Gallinari is coming off a prolific season with the Denver Nuggets, scoring 18.2 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest.

He has consistently shot the ball from deep and this skill is a very valuable weapon for someone of his size. Gallinari is the prototypical stretch big man that every team could use to keep defenses honest and clear up space in the paint.

The main concern for teams wanting to set up meetings with him is his health as an injury from a few years back have seemingly prevented him from playing at least 64 games in a season since.
