In the last several months, there has been a growing expectation that All-Star forward Paul George will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers when he hits the free-agent market next summer.

His former Indiana Pacers teammate Danny Granger is also of that same belief despite him being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder just prior to the start of free agency, according to Erik Horne of NewsOk.

“If they can put something together in Oklahoma where they can win, will that mean L.A.'s completely out of play in free agency? No. L.A.'s always in play,” Granger said.

Even with the trade to the Thunder, there still remains consistent chatter that he is hell bent on going to his Lakers. What also only further fuels that premise is that this move doesn't shift things away from him being able to opt out of his current deal and become an unrestricted free agent next July.

There could be another intriguing dynamic to all of this given that reigning league MVP Russell Westbrook could also hit the open market next summer if he decides to hold off on signing a lucrative contract extension. This could put the Thunder in a serious bind possibly being without any superstar in place to lead the franchise.

If things do indeed stay the course for George, then this upcoming season will nothing more than be a placeholder until he can finally make his expected decision to join the Lakers in free agency in a year's time.
