Darren Till has always been known as a big guy. He gets called a “Gorilla” and people used to say he was a “light-heavyweight” back when he used to fight welterweight.

Many were pushing for him to become a middleweight considering his tough weight cut to get to 170 and his big size. He has been a middleweight since 2019 when he beat Kelvin Gastelum by split decision at UFC 244.

Recently Darren Till made the news when he revealed to ESPN that he wasn't completely done with welterweight and he still had his eye on the champion Kamaru Usman. Speaking to John Gooden, he had the following to say:

“I could probably still make welterweight,” Darren Till said. (transcribed by BJPenn.com's Cole Shelton). “I know Kamaru Usman wants to fight me, I know he’s said that. He said ‘I still want to fight Till’, and we’ve got a little bit of history. It’s him and Leon [Edwards] destined to fight. Leon gonna take that title, but why can’t I go down for one last hurrah and see if I can’t grab that strap I was meant to have?”

The quote comes as a surprise considering how he left welterweight. Two stoppage losses in a row to Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, respectively, saw him forced to change things up.

Right now, Till has a fight with top contender Derek Brunson to worry about. The fight could help determine who is next up to fight Israel Adesanya since Robert Whittaker looks like he'll be taking some time off.
