With the MLB lockout over and the free agency period now once again underway, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has one dream signing in mind for his already high-octane lineup.

On Friday, Roberts was asked about longtime Atlanta Braves first baseman and current free agent Freddie Freeman. Instead of shying away from fueling speculation over the possibility of Freeman joining the Dodgers, Roberts confirmed that the veteran slugger is in “discussion” for the team in free agency.

“I would love to see Freddie Freeman in a Dodgers uniform,” Roberts said. “Who wouldn't?

“Certainly in the discussion for us. But ultimately it's going to be his decision.”

Freeman will not have a shortage of suitors interested in signing him. Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos noted ahead of the lockout that he would like Freeman to stay put in Atlanta. However, there was a reported standstill in their contract talks revolving around Freeman’s desire to sign a six-year, $200 million deal.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal did note last week that the chances of Freeman leaving Atlanta are “greater than they’ve ever been” and that the five-time All-Star could take his talents elsewhere for the “right offer.” More so, the Dodgers have a “real shot” at signing him.

Freeman is coming off of a stout 2021 season with the Braves, where he recorded his third 30-plus home runs campaign of his career and also shined in the postseason with 11 RBI.
