The Sixth Man of the Year Award is one of the highest individual honors in the NBA. It is given to the player who has the biggest impact in games despite not being part of the starting unit. There are some who have proven they are deserving to win the honor, however, for David Fizdale, he believes his own player should win it by the end of the season.

The Memphis Grizzlies head coach made it known, via Tim MacMahon of ESPN, who he is campaigning for and that if it was up to win to decide, Zach Randolph is the clear winner.

“It has been seamless. He has never bickered once to the press – not one time. You can go back through every paper, article or anything and he never complained. There were days when he was frustrated. He just stayed with it, and he's embraced it. He's got to be in the conversation of Sixth Man of the Year. I don't know how he can't be one of the finalists for that, looking at what he's done on the glass and from a scoring stand point. I think a lot of the sixth men do a lot of scoring. Z-Bo is in the trenches for us, grabbing rebounds for us every night. I'm sure he leads the league for double-doubles off the bench. Yes, I am pitching for him, if you're wondering.”

Fizdale certainly makes a good argument for the 6-foot-9 power forward as he is having a very good season for his team. In only 24.4 minutes per game, Z-Bo is averaging 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists. What the numbers don't show though is the toughness he brings and his ability to contribute in different ways, which has made it possible for the Grizzlies to make it to the playoffs.

A 16-year league veteran, Randolph has been as impressive as ever this year and is continuing to show his talent in rebounding and scoring inside the paint. With him in their fold, it has made Fizdale's job easier to win more games and make another postseason appearance. Despite being a lower seed in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies will be a very difficult team to go up against, as they have a good mix of veterans and young players who are more than capable to upset the title favorites.
