The Daytona 500 kicked off on Sunday afternoon with a massive pileup just 14 laps in.

A total of 16 cars were involved in the wreck, and shortly after that, the Daytona 500 was postponed due to nearby lightning strikes. Crashes are always devastating for the drivers involved, and the first thought remains the safety of everybody.

Kevin Harvick was in the lead as the others aimed to catch up to him, and contact by one driver caused this huge wreck in the beginning stages of the big race. Some notable names involved in the accident are Ryan Newman and Martin Treux Jr., to name a few.

Aric Almirola wasn't too far behind Harvick before the crash, and unfortunately ended the race for many who were involved in the massive pileup.

Many can't seem to forget the infamous crashes in Daytona history, and after Ryan Newman's horrific wreck a few years back, here's too hoping this one doesn't turn out too serious.

The race is currently paused due to weather, and cleaning up the mess will be a lot for them to handle. For the drivers involved, many of their cars were damaged for good, and they will pack up and head home with their hopes and dreams set for the next big race after an unfortunate crash in the early stages on Sunday.
