The Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia76ers are now very busy ahead of the draft on June 22. By owning the second and third picks, respectively, they have invited some of the top prospects to work out with them to gauge if they would fit well in their system.

One of the players projected to be a top-five pick is De’Aaron Fox from Kentucky, who is scheduled to showcase his skill set in the teams’ practice facilities next week. The Lakers and Sixers are both believed to be looking for a solid playmaker who can run their offense, as well as provide them with more depth to their guard rotation.

Despite being linked consistently to Jrue Holiday, the 76ers may opt to draft a young point guard and have him develop his game further, together with their young core. It will also allow them to save more money as they will only need to pay the rookie scale contract instead of a more lucrative one to a veteran floor general.

The Lakers, on the other hand, could pass up on the obvious choice for the second pick, Lonzo Ball, if they feel that he will not thrive under coach Luke Walton’s system. However, should they draft a guard, that player may be seen as someone who has the potential to play both the one and two spots, and could be inserted in the lineup for longer stretches, and depending on matchups.

With only less than three weeks to go before the lottery, more chatter about potential picks for teams should emerge. If there’s one thing certain at this point, their coaching staffs, as well as front office executives are all doing their homework to give their franchises the best chance to improve through it.
