Norman Reedus, who plays Death Stranding's Sam Porter Bridges, apparently confirms that Death Stranding 2 is coming soon.

Norman Reedus has never been shy in teasing fans about Death Stranding. He did it once back in September, and he did it again this May. It looks like his initial Death Stranding leak was not only intentional, it's highly encouraged. Otherwise, Hideo Kojima should have asked him to keep quiet about Death Stranding 2 at this point. But no, Reedus just doubles down on the Death Stranding leaks unabashedly.

In an interview with LEO, Reedus was talking about his recent activities in his career. The conversation started with AMC's The Walking Dead, where Norman had his breakout role as Darryl, a character original to the TV show who wasn't in the comics. With this show wrapping up shooting for its final season, the conversation drifted to the star's other projects.

“Okay, so you got the book going on, you’ve got the final season coming out, then the spinoff, and you’re filming Death Stranding, the video game,” asks LEO.

“We just started the second one,” replies Sam Porter Bridges.

The casual admission that they are already working on the second game shouldn't come as a surprise, as Kojima really isn't very shy in teasing his fans about his projects, either. Reedus then shares how the entire partnership between him and Kojima came about, explaining that it was legendary film director Guillermo del Toro who introduced him to the legendary game developer.

“Guillermo Del Toro, who gave me my first movie, called me up and said, “Hey, there’s a guy named Hideo Kojima, he’s gonna call you, just say yes.” And I go, “What do you mean just say yes?” He goes, “Stop being an asshole, just say yes.” Then I was in San Diego and Hideo came with a big group of people, he’s from Tokyo, and he showed me what he was working on on a game called Silent Hill. I was blown away by what he was showing me, and I was like, “Yes, let’s do this.” It’s not Ms. Pacman; it’s so realistic, it’s so futuristic, it’s so complicated and beautiful, and I was completely blown away.

It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.”

Reedus referencing the PT Trailer that so disappointingly fell apart is bittersweet – knowing that it was the project that led to Death Stranding, but also hurts because we never got to see the version of Silent Hill created by Kojima and del Toro.

Reedus' and Kojima's candid discussions of their projects with the public are in stark contrast with Konami's approach to their video games, as Konami has been very secretive of their projects, even aggressively attacking those who have been leaking about Silent Hill. Perhaps it was this clash in personalities and approaches towards creating video games that really drew the rift between Kojima and his former employers, but in this reality we live in, everything turned out beautifully in the end, so we don't really have a lot of complaints.

So, when will Death Stranding 2 come out? We don't know yet. But based on Reedus' interview, the game might not come out until around 2024 or 2025.
