Dee Ford missed another practice for the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday as he struggles to do away with the injury that bugged him for much of preseason. Depending on the condition of his knee, he may have to miss out significant playing time.

Ford has been able to play for the team's first two regular-season games. However, he's been unable to play for the rest of the game as his knee acted up again. Due to this, Ford had to miss the team practice.

The coaching staff confirmed that the affected area was the same part of the knee that kept him out for the team's preseason and training camp.

Per Jennifer Lee Chan in NBC Sports Bay Area:

“Yes, yep, the same area,”  head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “Quad, knee area. He’s still hurting today.”

Ford was dealing with tendinitis in his knee and went through platelet-rich-plasma treatment in August in order to help improve his knee's recovery. The fact that it acted up and stopped him from participating in practice is enough reason for 49ers fans to worry.

However, Shanahan put a positive spin on the entire situation.

“But, he’s day-to-day, had a chance to practice today. We’re going to play it safe. We’ll see here over the next two days, which makes me somewhat optimistic for the game, but we’ve got to play it day by day. It’s something he’s dealing with. Feels better now than it did after the game on Sunday, so hopefully that will continue.”

Ford has notched a pass deflection, forced a fumble, made a sack, and completed two tackles. It's obvious that he's still reeling from the injury, but the team is taking the safe approach for him.

Hopefully, the amount of care the team is giving him will translate to a quicker return.
