Deiveson Figueiredo was recently asked about Cody Garbrandt now that the former UFC bantamweight champion has dropped down to flyweight. The Brazilain did not disappoint and certainly did not hold back.

The former UFC flyweight champion was recently on MMAFighting's Trocação Franca podcast where he was asked about Cody Garbrandt. Deiveson Figueiredo had no problem getting brutally honest.

“I really expected more,” Figueiredo said of Garbrandt’s flyweight debut. “It became clear that this division is not for him. He has to stay in his weight class. It’s clear he gets weaker, physically speaking, going down in weight. He’s totally worn out. He should stay [at bantamweight] or move up to 145. This division is not for him.”

Cody Garbrandt does have some questions on his durability and that was evident in his fight against Kai Kara-France at UFC 269. His flyweight debut ended up being one to forget.

Deiveson Figueiredo did have some nice things to say about the former UFC champion's career. He doesn't think Cody Garbrandt needs to walk away from combat sports.

“Since he’s a boxer and likes boxing, it would be good for him to box, to make that transition,” Figueiredo said. “He’s too young to think about retirement. He’s still got wood left to burn. In MMA [too], but flyweight is not for him. That message was very clear.”

It's not quite clear what is next for Cody Gabrandt after losing his fight at UFC 269. Deiveson Figueiredo has a flyweight title fight set for UFC 270 on Saturday, January 22.
