It might be a good idea to start sculpting bronze statues of Dennis Rodman as early as today. Who knows, the basketball Hall of Famer may just be the figure that would keep the tense relationship between the United States and North Korea from devolving into a nuclear bomb shootout, which, if it happens, would likely mean a third world war.

During an appearance on the British television show “Good Morning Britain” on Wednesday, the five-time NBA champion said that he’s keen on trying to smoothen out things between the two nations, as transcribed by Adam K. Raymond of New York Magazine.

“I just want to try to straighten things out for everyone to get along together.”

For someone who is known as much for his defensive and rebounding prowess as for his penchant to easily get under other players’ skins, Dennis Rodman doesn’t seem to be the best guy for mankind to rest its hopes on. But what separates Rodman from all possible peace negotiators is that he’s friends with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, whom the ex-Chicago Bulls forward has visited plenty of times before.

If Dennis Rodman thinks that stopping a nuclear crisis is no more difficult than containing Shaquille O’Neal on the block like he did in the 90’s, let’s just hope that he’s correct.
