The Denver Broncos Week 14 matchup against the Detroit Lions provides an opportunity to climb right back into both the AFC West race, as well as the wild card chase. The Broncos are coming off a deflating loss to the rival Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night, 22-9.

In the loss, Denver moved the ball on offense, but could not finish drives. They especially struggled to move the ball through the air, with Teddy Bridgewater completing just over 50% of his passes and throwing two interceptions.

However, there was some really good things the Broncos were able to take from that game. Their defense played great once again, holding the high-powered Chiefs offense to 267 yards. Also, rookie running back Javonte Williams rushed for over 100 yards for the second time in his brief career.

The Broncos enter this weekend at 6-6. The division is more than likely out of reach but the wild card spots are wide open. Denver is currently the #12 seed in the AFC. They are one game behind the #5 Los Angeles Chargers. That's how crazy it is. That leads me to Week 14.

Here are my bold predictions for the Denver Broncos Week 14 game against the Detroit Lions.

Broncos Week 14 Predictions vs Detroit Lions

4. Jerry Jeudy will have a career day

Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy has had a tough season, between inconsistent play on the field and injuries that kept him off of it. But I look for him to have a big game Sunday vs the Lions.

News broke Thursday evening on the passing of Broncos great, Demaryius Thomas. Thomas was one of the greatest Broncos receivers in franchise history. He ended his career with just over 9,000 career receiving yards for Denver. That is 2nd all-time in franchise history behind only Rod Smith.

I fully expect for this game to be highly emotional, for the fans and players alike. I fully expect this game to get out of hand, with Denver's offense looking as good as they have all season. Jeudy, the team's best and most talented receiver, should reap the benefits of that.

3. Javonte Williams will supplant Melvin Gordon III as the leading rusher

Despite playing well over the last month or so, Melvin Gordon III is clearly not as explosive as he once was with the Los Angeles Chargers. Meanwhile, teammate Javonte Williams looks explosive seemingly every time he touches the ball.

He is strong, shifty and quick with good top-end speed. Williams actually leads the NFL in missed tackle rate this season.

His 34% missed tackle rate is the highest for any qualifying running back since 2014. The Lions rush defense is not very good, so I would expect Williams to pick up where he left off against Kansas City and have himself a field day Sunday.

2. Pat Surtain will stay red hot, pick off Jared Goff

Like I mentioned above, the Broncos defense played extremely well in the loss to the Chiefs. They have actually played really well for quite some time.

Denver's defense also shut down Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense the week prior. Surtain picked off Herbert twice that day, with one interception taken to the house.

Surtain has been one of the better cover corners in the NFL this season. According to Pro Football Focus, he ranks 2nd among NFL cornerbacks in lowest passer rating allowed when in man coverage. Only New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson is ahead of him.

Jared Goff is not the most accurate quarterback, nor is he very mobile. I would expect him to be under duress a lot fo the game, and make some mistakes with the football. Surtain will be there for at least one of those mistakes.

1. Broncos play outstanding football, dump truck the Lions

There are so many reasons why this outcome should be very easy to predict.

First and foremost, the Broncos are a much better football team than the Lions. They should win convincingly. The game is in Mile High Stadium. They have a very good defense against a short-handed Detroit Lions offense. It appears the Lions will be without their best player, D'Andre Swift, again Sunday.

Also, Detroit is coming off their lone win of the season. For weeks now, the Lions have been playing for that. The one win. You never want to be part of history and go winless. They got that monkey off their back last week in walk-off fashion against their bitter rivals.

It was already going to make sense that the Lions would come out flat this week after such an emotional win. But with the news of Demaryius Thomas passing away, it's the perfect storm of scenarios for Denver. I expect them to play one of their best games of the season, against the worst team in the league, the week after they won their first game.

Sunday will be for “DT,” Demaryius Thomas.
