Following the accident he was involved in last month together with his girlfriend, Gloria Govan, former New York Knicks head coach and long-time Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher has been formally charged with two counts of DUI, according to a report made by TMZ Sports.

This comes after the SUV he was driving back in June 4 crashed the guardrail on the 101 freeway in Los Angeles. Despite the impact, the couple were not hurt and suffered no major injury from it.

“Derek Fisher has been formally charged with 2 counts of DUI stemming from his June 4 crash on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles … TMZ Sports has learned.”

“Fisher was arrested after he lost control of a Cadillac Escalade, slammed into a guardrail and flipped the vehicle around 3 AM … with his girlfriend, Gloria Govan, in the passenger seat.”

Fisher will face six months of jail time if found guilty of driving under the influence. However, since it’s his first time to be charged with it, he will most likely be ordered to pay some fines and be on probation instead. It’s also possible that he will be asked to attend some alcohol education classes as part of the diversion.

A statement has yet to be released by Fisher’s camp, but it’s expected that there will be one made soon.
