The battle for Los Angeles has taken an interesting turn over the last half-decade with the rise of the L.A. Clippers to postseason relevance, and while they haven't been able to get past the second round yet, they've had staggeringly greater success than their inner-city rival Los Angeles Lakers.

For much of the time in Los Angeles, the Clippers have been the butt of jokes due to their consistency in losing seasons. The Lakers, however, have won five NBA Championships since sharing the city and made it to the NBA Finals seven times in the last 17 years. Derek Fisher, the Lakers' point guard who helped them secure the five titles, wanted everyone to know that the city of Los Angeles still belongs to the Lakers with a video post on Friday afternoon. The video was a game-winning layup of his over the Clippers back in 2010.

Although Fisher thinks the Lakers still run Los Angeles, a case can be made in favor of the Clippers taking a bit more control over the city when it comes to winning. The Purple and Gold have had four consecutive losing seasons, including a franchise worst 17-56 record in 2015-16. They've averaged 22.75 wins and 59.25 losses since their 45 win 2012-13 season.

Meanwhile, the Clippers have had six consecutive winning seasons, including five straight with at least 51 wins, the longest such streak of their history. They've made the postseason every one of those years, but haven't gotten nearly as far as they'd like to due to some untimely injuries and inexplicable collapses.

Until the Clippers win an NBA Championship, they'll always be playing under the shadow of the 16-time champion Lakers. Even if the Clippers do win a title, Lakers fans will still likely bring up the amount of titles they've won to put themselves on top.
