Given the brutal nature of the NFL, it's not unusual for animosity to develop between players on rival teams. Especially when you're in the same division and face them twice every season.

Enter Derek Wolfe and Philip Rivers. Their Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers have won the AFC West in 11 of the last 12 seasons. The competition is high, and at the defensive end and quarterback positions on opposite sides, their paths often meet.

Wolfe's relationship with Rivers wasn't in a good place to begin with, but it worsened on Sunday. In the spirit of Halloween, Wolfe delivered a peculiar form of trash talk to Philip during Denver's 27-19 victory.

From Vic Lombardi of Altitude 950:

“Don't like him. Not the kind of guy I'd hang out with. Ever since I told him I'd eat his kids, just hasn't been the same.”

Rivers, who has eight kids, understandably didn't take Wolfe's words too well. Even though the statement was said in jest, Rivers can be excused for not seeing the humor in it.

The Chargers' signal caller struggled on Sunday, throwing three interceptions while enduring four sacks. The Broncos' defense has made a number of the game's best quarterbacks look average the last couple seasons, to be fair.

Here's some video of Wolfe talking about eating Philip's children (not a sentence I ever thought I'd type):
