31-year-old free agent Deron Williams‘ decision to opt out of his $5.6-million player option with the Dallas Mavericks seems to have payed off, with the team reportedly agreeing to a one-year, $10-million-dollar deal.

Williams was cut by the Brooklyn Nets last year before being thrown a lifeline by Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, which rejuvenated his career. Last season, he averaged 14.1 points (41.4 percent shooting), 5.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds.

Dallas successfully signed ex-Warrior Harrison Barnes to a four-year max offer sheet of $95 million (he'll likely be retained by Golden State if they miss out on Kevin Durant).  However, they missed out on Mike Conley, and they were running out of options so re-signing their point guard became a priority.

They also recently announced the re-signing of Dwight Powell on a surprising four-year deal worth $37 million-plus.

The Williams camp have almost doubled his original option, which is just another “wow” story from this weekend's free agency money bonanza.
