During his playing days, DeShawn Stevenson made a name for himself as a knock down shooter and tough defender who never backed down going up against the best shooting guards and even small forwards of the league. He was also known for being eccentric and not shying away from being different.
The 6-foot-5 swingman caused quite a stir before when news came out that he had his own functioning ATM inside his house. He was recently asked by Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype about it and he explained the reason why he had the machinery inside his home.
“I have to ask about this: You had an ATM machine installed in your house a few years back. Do you still have it and use it?”
“DS: I still have the ATM machine! Do I still use it? Nah. I don’t use it, but it’s still in my house. I didn’t even buy the ATM machine! It was something that my financial advisor and best friend bought for me on my birthday as a joke, but it really worked. It was something given to me that I didn’t even ask for and it got a lot of publicity and spread on social media (laughs). It had my name on it and everything, so I kept it!”
With the number of professional athletes who lost their fortunes and even went bankrupt, the ATM can be considered a reminder to him by his financial advisor to be extra careful with his spendings.
Although he has not been linked to any overspending or having any addiction, it's still a fun story to hear that he has a fully functioning ATM near his kitchen, as not a lot of people can claim they have that.
